Improving your putting is now easier then ever to do with the help of putting videos and courses. Everyone has specific things that we would like to do or have or perhaps be. Perhaps you have some curiosity about how to improve your putting and would like to know how to go about lowering your putting score. For some people they learn best by reading techniques and tips, whilst others are more visual learners, and learn best by watching others demonstrate in a putting video.
The best course that I have found on improving your putting is this one here >>
With the help of that course I was able to identify some simple mistakes that I was making with my putting, and it allowed me to cut seven strokes off my average round score in only a couple of weeks. So its well worth a look if you want something well-structured that actually gets results.
In this article I am going to combine two approaches by showing putting videos that illustrate how to go about improving your putting, whilst at the same time discussing some of the foundational techniques that you need to learn if your game on the greens is going to improve.
A great many other people have a similar interest in lowering their golf score. There are products and services on the internet that can help significantly (like this one). This informative article is to help you attain your golfing goals and learn how to putt more effectively on the greens .
For those who have an interest, continue reading and I’ll share some good tips on how to improve your putting with the help of a putting video or three!
The Putting Grip
The first step is to consider the putting grip. The grip that you have on the putter is likely to be different from the grip that you have on the driver, as the approach is fundamentally different.
This is not about force, but rather about close control, and so you will take that into account. It is nevertheless useful to know what a ‘traditional’ putting grip looks like so that you can compare it with your own:
Here is a putting video that discusses the traditional putting grip:
(Learn more about the putting grip here) And here is another video that discusses some alternatives to the traditional putting grip. In this video it discusses an approach that changes the way the wrist interacts with the putter. Interesting.
You need to do this first step promptly, correctly and completely. Should you not complete it correctly, then you will not have the firm foundation that you need to attack the shot.
So you need to look into the type of grip that you prefer first of all.
Putting Styles
The second step is to decide on the putting style that suits you best. Essentially this comes down to a choice of two main styles. A tall style or a more hunched over style.
In this putting video we look at those two options so that you can then decide which one suits you best:
Items to avoid here are quickly changing between the two styles. Its fine to try out both styles and see which you prefer (in fact its essential). But once you have decided on a style then stick to it. You need to put in a lot of practice to get used to a new style, and will have chosen your putter based on which one you prefer (the video talks about which putters to choose for which style). So it makes sense to get in the groove of using that method in the way that you approach your putting.
You can learn more about putting styles here >>
If you are wondering how the Pro’s do it, then here is a nice video which aims to show the style that Tiger Woods adopts when he hits a putt. (Though its not Tiger in the video)
If you note the foot position and the use of the rail, then that should also give you some good ideas as to how you can go about practising your chosen style more effectively.
You should avoid only trying a style for a couple of hours and then reverting to your old habits. It is important to give a new putting style at least a month of constant practice before trying to tweak it. There are many fundamentals in the game of golf, and sometimes it is best to simply go with the tried and tested methods of striking the ball, rather then trying to re-invent the wheel.
Back Swing vs Follow Through
The third step will be to watch your back swing when practising. This is important because regardless of which putting style you adopt a very common problem is to have a shorter backswing then the follow through.
In fact, regardless of the length of the putt, your backswing should ALWAYS be shorter then your follow through. So even if you have a monster putt, you need to know that is the case.
Here is a putting video that illustrates what I mean:
What is important to avoid here is losing control over the speed and follow through of the putter. If you keep the simple mantra in mind that the follow through needs to be longer, then you are already much better placed to take a better putt.

Conclusion…
Follow the exact steps outlined above and you ought to start to improve your putting and lower your golf score.
To make more rapid progress I would recommend you take a look at a structured putting course like this one >>
Simply do the things specified in that and steer clear of the traps and problems as explained. Then congratulate yourself while you really take advantage of the benefits and rewards of having successfully improved your putting.
Bear in mind the three fundamentals that we have talked about here of having a grip that suits you, deciding on a style that you like, and then getting an accurate stroke where the follow through exceeds the backswing, and you will already be well on your way to having a much happier time on the putting greens!
And all by only your own efforts!
